All players in the Premier League are stars, celebrities if you like. That is the impression that you get when you look at the statistics from the websites that that keep player profiles. For one, thing, you realize that upon finding their way into the premiership, searches on the profiles of the players who have done so tend to suddenly soar (and stay way up). Mark you, these are players who before their entry into the premiership were virtually unknown. Then upon finding their way there, they suddenly find themselves enjoying celebrity status, overnight. In other words, just the simple elevation to the premiership of a player – even if it happens via a nondescript club that is on the verge of being demoted to ‘division 1’ – pushes the status of that player up.

Worth noting is the fact that the prestige that players in the premiership enjoy is not coincidental: you have to attain a decent standard of play, by whatever standards, to find yourself playing in the premiership. The players in that top league are also the best players in the world by extension, whichever way one chooses to look at it. It is something in which only merit matters: there is no other way of getting to play in the premiership.
